AL13 Fawn terracotta Roman-Egyptian oil lamp, frog and corn type: £ 65

Fawn terracotta Roman-Egyptian oil lamp, frog and corn type, measuring 73 mm/2.9 ins. in length. Some sooty deposit around the wick hole, the relief a little rubbed, otherwise condition good. Indistinct makers mark on base, from Egypt, c. 3rd-4th Century A.D.

Large Syro-Palestinian lamp with thumb spur and sloping shoulder decorated with diagonal striations. A stylised bird moulded in low relief between the filler and wick holes (unusual). Lamp measures 110 mm/4.3 in. in length. Relatively crudely styled as is typical of the type, c. 5th Century A.D.

Large cream-fawn Syro-Palestinian lamp with short thumb spur and sloping shoulder decorated with stylised foliage/herringbone pattern. Lamp measures 117 mm/4.5 in. in length. Some sooty deposit around the wick hole, otherwise condition good, c. 5th Century A.D.

AL16 Brown terracotta Syro-Palestinian lamp, c. 6th-7th Century A.D. : £ 65

Brown terracotta Syro-Palestinian lamp with thumb spur and sloping shoulder decorated with patterns made from moulded circles. A palm frond between the wick and filler holes. Lamp measures 95 mm/3.7 in. in length. Some sooty deposit around the wick hole, minor wear to the underside, otherwise condition good, c. 6th-7th Century A.D.

AL17 Byzantine pottery oil lamp, c. 6th - 7th Century A.D. : £ 60

Byzantine pottery oil lamp in orange clay of rounded triangular form with vestigial vertical lug handle. Lamp measures 100 mm/3.9 in. in length. The sloping shoulder is decorated with a raised pattern of circles, dots and tendrils. Complete, but rather worn and an inexpensive example of the type. Probably from Syria or Palestine, c. 6th - 7th Century A.D.

AL18 Byzantine pottery oil lamp, c. 6th - 7th Century A.D. : £ 85

Byzantine pottery oil lamp in orange clay of rounded triangular form measuring 98 mm/3.9 in. in length. The upper surface is decorated with a raised repeated geometric design on the shoulder. A cross has been inscribed by hand in the channel between the wick and filler holes. Complete but some minor sooty deposit around the wick hole and some minor encrustation on the underside, otherwise condition good. From Syria, c. 6th - 8th century A.D.
