AL19 An early Christian terracotta lamp, circa 5th Century A.D. : £ 55An early Christian terracotta lamp, the shoulder decorated with closely spaced linear ridges with moulded circles towards the spout, a simple lug handle at the rear. Lamp measures 85 mm/3.4 ins. long, overall surface wear and some sooty deposits around the nozzle, but intact, circa 5th Century A.D.Previously in the possession of Frances Brodie, London (d.18.11.04), who acquired the lamp from her Aunt Cora Warden Baker.AL20 A small Greek open-bowl coarse ware lamp, c. 4th Century B.C. : £ 48A small Greek open-bowl orange coarse ware lamp measuring 65 mm/2.5 ins. long. Some minor chips and wear, but an inexpensive example, c. 4th Century B.C. A crack on the shoulder, but sound, a nice example of the type, c. 3rd-4th Century A.D.AL22 A shoulder segmented oil lamp, Egypt, c. 2nd Century A.D. : SOLDA shoulder segmented brown clay oil lamp, measuring 79 mm/3.1 ins. in length, a moulded insect between the volutes supporting the nozzle. Mark in Greek (∆E) scratched on the base. Some minor wear and some soot around the wick hole but condition good. Egypt, c. 2nd Century A.D.AL23 A Byzantine pottery oil lamp from Syria, c. 6th-8th Century A.D. : £ 85Byzantine pottery oil lamp in orange clay of rounded triangular form measuring 97 mm/3.8 in. in length. The upper surface decorated with a raised repeated quatrefoil design on the shoulder. The base chipped and traces of sooty deposits around the wick hole and some minor encrustation on the underside, otherwise condition good.
