ANE31 A trophy of five mounted bronze arrowheads from Marlik Tepe, northern Iran, Amlash Culture, c. 8th Century B.C. : £ 225A trophy of five mounted Persian bronze arrowheads, measuring from 2.5 ins./60 mm to 3.9 ins./100 mm in length, including triangular and barbed forms. All with dark green patina and some with minor edge nicks, but generally condition good. From Marlik Tepe in north-west Iran, Amlash Culture, c. 8th Century B.C.Ex Trevor Cairns Collection and acquired by him from Folio Fine Art in the early 1970's for £ 19 10 shillings (£ 19.50p).
Mr. Trevor Cairns was Head of the History Department at Sunderland College of Education, United Kingdom. A Syrian orange-brown terracotta horned quadruped with a rider on its back, decorated with multiple pierced holes in the body. The terracotta measures 2.8 ins./71 mm in length and stands 2.9 ins./74 mm high. The horns repaired, and some areas of darker discolouration but otherwise intact, c. 1st Millennium B.C.Previously the property of a Dutch private collector and acquired in the 1970s from a London auction house. A Syrian terracotta bull with worn brown slip and large pierced round eyes, measuring 2.4 ins./64 mm in length and standing 2.6 ins./68 mm high. The tips of the horns lost and possibly some minor restoration, but essentially intact and a pleasing example of the type, c. 1st Millennium B.C.Previously the property of a Dutch private collector and acquired in the 1970s from a London auction house. |
