Below we present a group of bronze arrowheads and javelin points from the collection of Josef Zimmerman.Josef Zimmerman was an Israeli irrigation engineer (his family moved from Germany to Israel in 1933, following Hitler's rise to power). He travelled extensively in the Middle East during the 1940s and 1950s. During these trips, it seems likely that he acquired the points presented here. He went on to become one of Israel's top experts in irrigation engineering and was seconded by the Israeli Government to one of the United Nations agencies as a consultant based in Rome. His wife Ina (herself from a wealthy family in Sophia - her father was head of Bulgaria's oil industry during the years prior to the Second World War) was a noted singer in the Bulgarian State Opera.
As a UN consultant, Josef travelled widely and developed a passion for collecting, particularly antique clocks and watches. He was an active buyer and collector well into his retirement years. Josef died suddenly in Rome in 1995 and Ina passed away in December 2001. Both are buried in Rome's old Jewish Cemetery.
The Zimmerman horological collection (totalling 309 lots) was sold in a single-owner sale at Bonhams, Knightsbridge, London, on 1st April 2003.All items are guaranteed to be genuine as described.
