BI1 A Neolithic flint polished axe from Seaford Head, East Sussex, c. 2500 B.C. : £ 125

A Neolithic grey flint polished axe, with dense white patination and some iron staining, measuring 103 cm/4.2 ins. in length.  A nice symmetrical example with a gentle posterior taper.  Several ancient shallow chips to the body and the cutting edge chipped and well-worn, but a good example of a Neolithic work axe. Found at Seaford Head, East Sussex, on '11/6/81', c. 2500 B.C.

BI2 The greater part of a Neolithic grey flint chisel found at Seaford, East Sussex, in 1909 : £ 65

The greater part of a Neolithic grey flint chisel, measuring 92 cm/3.7 ins. in length, perhaps three-quarters of the original implement. Some white patination, particularly on one side and with a straight cutting edge. Broken in antiquity, but still a good-sized example, found at Seaford, East Sussex, in 1909.

BI3 The butt of a large Lower Palaeolithic pointed handaxe : £ 105 RESERVED

The lower part (butt) of a large Lower Palaeolithic mottled brown flint pointed handaxe, measuring 115 mm/4.5 ins. in length. The tip missing with perhaps a quarter to one third of the original implement lost. Some iron staining and some small patches of cortex remaining, but originally a very fine example. Found at Moortown Pit, Corfe Mullen, South Dorset on '1/6/86', Middle Acheulian Culture.
Ex Peter Negus Collection.

BI4 A crude Lower Palaeolithic core tool from Twydall, Kent : £ 48

A crude Lower Palaeolithic core tool, made from banded brown flint, measuring 75 x 101 mm/2.9 x 4 ins. Some retouching around the edges, although of irregular shape, the tool fits nicely in the hand. Found at Twydall, Kent, in around 1908, Early Acheulian Culture.
Ex Peter Negus Collection.

BI5 A substantial portion of a Late Bronze Age socketed axe : £ 75

The substantial part of a Late Bronze Age socketed axehead, measuring 60 mm/2.4 ins. in length, comprising a good part of the body and the cutting edge. Some chips to the blade and with a dark green patina. Found near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, c. 1000-800 B.C.
An inexpensive Bronze Age artefact.

BI6 A Lower Palaeolithic brown flint Acheulian pointed handaxe found at Maidenhead, Berkshire, in 1889 : SOLD

A Lower Palaeolithic mottled brown flint Acheulian pointed handaxe, measuring 110 cm/4.2 ins. in length.  Some cortex remaining on both sides but a well-shaped example with a straight cutting edge.  Possible reworking of the point in antiquity, but no modern damage, and overall a very nice example.  Found at Maidenhead, Berkshire, in 1889.

BI7 A Neolithic bifacially-flaked flint axehead found at Seaford, East Sussex, in 1980, c. 2500 B.C.  : £ 95

A Neolithic mottled grey flint bifacially-flaked axehead measuring 104 mm/4.1 ins. in length.  Some minor edge chips, otherwise complete and in good condition, found at Seaford, East Sussex, in 1980, c. 2500 B.C.

BI8 A Middle Bronze Age palstave, seemingly unused and straight from the mould, reputedly found in Dorset in the 19th Century : £ 325

A Middle Bronze Age unlooped palstave, measuring 160 mm/6.2 ins. in length. Some corrosion to the butt, some casting flaws on the blade on the side not shown, otherwise in a very good state of preservation, with good metal. A chevron pattern on both sides at the narrowest part of the blade, and with dark green patination. The axe seems to be unused, straight from the mould, unsharpened and unfinished with some sprue remaining along the casting seam. Reputedly found in Dorset in the 19th Century, c. 1500-1300 B.C.

BI9 A rare and good-sized Neolithic macehead from Withiel, Cornwall : £ 320

A large Neolithic greenstone macehead measuring 135 x 105 mm /5.4 x 4.1 ins. with central hour-glass perforation. The surface weathered and a small hairline surface crack but sound. A good-sized attractive example, found at Withiel, Cornwall, c. 2500 B.C.
Ex Peter Negus Collection.

A very desirable example. Good-sized British maceheads are very rare and this is a much larger example than most.
