EA22 A sizeable wooden mummiform funerary stuatuette, c. 21st-22nd Dynasty, c. 730-1085 B.C. : SOLDA sizeable wooden mummiform funerary statuette wearing a full wig. The figure is unpainted, except for a faint single vertical column of hieratic inscription painted in black. The inscription identifies the owner as Ka-nefer, son of Totna. A cylindrical hole, 17-30 mm/0.7-1.2 ins. in diameter and 148 mm/5.82 in length, has been burnt vertically from the right shoulder and would have originally contained a funerary papyrus. Figure stands 293 mm/11.53 ins. in height. A large chip to the foot, some splitting of the wood particularly to the front and wear and lacunae on the right side of figure, but a good-sized imposing artifact, c. 21st-22nd Dynasty, c. 730-1085 B.C.Ex Charles Ede Gallery, Brook Street, London (No. 54 in 'Small Sculpture From Ancient Egypt XX', Charles Ede Ltd., Brook Street, London, 1993).
This piece was being studied by the noted epigrapher Professor Ricardo Caminos, sometime Professor of Egyptology at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, shortly before his death in May 1992. Modelling relatively crude as is typical of this period. A large painted polychrome terracotta ushabti measuring 152 mm/6.2 ins. high, traces of white slip on the body, cream slip for the face and hands, and the wig and facial details in black. A worn vertical column of black hieroglyphs on the front.
