EA31 An impressive polychrome mummy mask with substantial decoration remaining, c. 3rd Century B.C. : £ 1350 NEW!A polychrome wooden mummy mask, with substantial painted decoration remaining, measuring 215 mm/8.5 ins. high and 185mm/7 ins. wide. The face painted brownish-cream, the eyes and eye-brows added in black, the nostrils, mouth and ears delineated in brown with black outlines. Traces of a black painted headress above the forehead and below the ears. Two dowel holes on the reverse for attachment. Some wear to the decoration on the cheeks, nose and chin, but overall an impressive museum quality mask. Ptolemaic period, c. 3rd Century B.C. Professionally mounted on a black custom stand.Ex US private collection.EA32 Polychrome wooden coffin fragment, Late Period, c. 664-332 B.C. : £ 450Fragment from a wooden coffin decorated in polychrome with a uraeus and feathers above some hieroglyphic text, then a falcon with a sun disc over the shoulder above two partial columns of hieroglyphs which read "revered before". Colours used include green, red and white. Fragment measures 260 mm/10.1 ins. high and 101 mm/4 ins. in width. Two dowel holes and some small areas of damage. Late Period, c. 664-332 B.C.Previously in the collection of Hugh Stanley Russell (1924-2000), a noted collector of Egyptian antiquities.EA33 No itemEA34 A provenanced faience amulet of Anubis from the Rustafjaell Collection : SOLDA pale blue faience amulet of Anubis, measuring 39 mm/1.5 ins. in height. The base and one ear missing but a relatively well-modelled example, mounted on an old wooden base, making the figure 57 mm/2.3 ins. high. An old collection label attached, which reads ‘Ancient Egyptian glazed charm figure of Anubis B.C. 900. Found at Gurob. Rustafjaell Collec. V. Fine’. A large chip to the base, a horizontal fracture repaired and the glaze worn but an inexpensive example. Late Period, c. 664-332 B.C.EA36 A green glazed faience ushabti, Late Period, c. 664-332 B.C. : £ 450A green glazed faience ushabti holding two hoes, a seed bag over the left shoulder, with nine horizontal lines of text, inscribed for the 'Third prophet of Wepwawet, Hor, born to Ir(t)wrw'. Figure measures 114 mm/4.3 ins. high. A chip to the beard, a fracture across the middle repaired and darker green glaze with some black staining on the lower body, wood block mounted. Late Period, c. 664-332 B.C.Previously in the collection of a US diplomat who was stationed in the Middle East in the 1950's and 1960's. |
