OA17 A provenanced Anatolian jar, c. 3rd - 1st Millennium B.C. : £ 220

A squat Anatolian grey burnished pottery twin-handled jar with incised geometric decoration, the lines infilled with white, measuring 83 mm/3.2 ins. high and 82 mm/3.2 ins. in diameter. Some encrustation and wear particularly on the side not shown, circa 3rd - 1st Millennium B.C.
Excavated at Ak Hissar (E/NE of Ismir, Turkey) and given to a private collector by Gabriel Couteaux in Istanbul in December 1966.

Records exist of a maritime agent and ship's captain called Gabriel Couteaux (1896-1981) who was resident in Istanbul and he may have been the source of this antiquity.

OA18 A Cypriot Black-on-Red Ware pottery oinochoe, c. 750-600 B.C. : £ 750

A good-sized Cypriot Black-on-Red Ware pottery oinochoe, the body decorated with groups of umber concentric bands with zig-zag decoration on the handle and bands around the neck and trefoil lip. Vessel measures 250 mm/10 ins. high. Small patches of the original colour remain, fired to buff in areas, with some wear and encrustation. Cypriot Iron Age, c. 750-600 B.C.
Acquired by a private collector in Cyprus in 1968 and brought into the UK in 1969.

OA19 A Greek buff miniature hydria, c. 5th Century B.C. : £ 145

A Greek buff miniature hydria with umber bands around the neck and mid-body, measuring 71 mm/2.8 ins. high, a chip to the rim, the bowl filled with earth, and some minor wear and encrustation, c. 5th Century B.C.

OA20 A fawn Roman spindle flask, c. 1st Century A.D. : £ 90

A fawn Roman spindle flask measuring 130 mm/5.2 ins. high. A gritty terracotta fabric but a nice example of the type, c. 1st Century A.D.

OA21 A Thai glazed ceramic lidded pyxis, c. 16th-17th Century A.D. : £ 85

A Thai glazed ceramic lidded pyxis with green linear and curvilinear decoration on the bowl and lid. Vessel measures 65 mm/2.6 ins. high and 60 mm/2.3 ins. in diameter. Brown slip applied to base, interior and knob on lid, condition good, c. 16th-17th Century A.D.

OA22 A Roman red ware askos, c. 2nd-3rd Century A.D. : £ 175

A Roman red ware askos, measuring 146 mm/5.7 ins. long and 86 mm/3.5 ins. high. Vessel has a grooved loop handle, tubular pouring spout and circular funnel mouth. Some minor wear, otherwise condition good, c. 2nd-3rd Century A.D.
Previously in a Dutch private collection.
