The skull finely engraved with scroll and foliate designs with an engraved snake crossing the vault of the cranium, and a rising sun engraved over each ear. In post-Medieval necromancy, it was considered that the conjured spirit would need a comfortable place to reside while being questioned by the necromancer - an engraved skull was considered the perfect place for the conjured spirit to occupy during the ritual.
