PC6 Framed terracotta heads from Teotihuacan, Mexico, c. 600 A.D. : SOLD

Two good-sized well-modelled terracotta heads from San Juan, Teotihuacan, Mexico. Heads measure 43 mm/1.6 ins. and 45 mm/1.7 ins. high and wear ornate head-dresses and ear spools. Some darker staining to one face, head-dresses chipped and each with one ear spool missing, but pleasing examples of the type, c. 600 A.D. Mounted on velvet in an old wooden frame, the frame measuring 175 mm/6.8 ins. x 134 mm/5.2 ins. Ex New York State private collection.

PC7 A brightly coloured Chancay twin-handled round-bottomed amphora, Peru, c. 1000-1450 A.D. : SOLD

A Chancay twin-handled round-bottomed amphora, measuring 210 mm/8.2 ins. high. The body painted red with a pattern of reddish-brown lines, enlivened with white, possibly representing a string cradle. Intact, but some surface wear and a chip to the rim, but an unusually brightly coloured example of the type, Peru, c. 1000-1450 A.D. Ex New York State private collection. Supplied with a perspex ring stand.

PC8 A large finely-modelled Vera Cruz terracotta head, Mexico, c. 400 A.D. : £ 485 NEW!

A large well-modelled terracotta head measuring 170 mm/7 ins. high, wearing a snake-like headdress and with finely-modelled facial features. Black chapapote (bitumen) decoration to the mouth and chin, eye pupils and eyes of the snake headdress, and two large hollow ear spools (one lost). A vent hole at the back, some damage to the headdress, but an attractive and impressive example. From Vera Cruz, Mexico, c. 400 A.D. Supplied with a custom stand.
Ex New York State private collection and acquired from Howard Nowes Ancient Art, New York, in 2002, and previously ex Michelle Hurling Collection, Texas.

PC9 Bolivian pottery amphora in debased Tiahuanaco style, c. 200-700 A.D. : £ 185

A pottery twin-handled amphora in debased Tiahuanaco style, measuring 122 mm/4.8 ins. high. The amphora has a carinated bowl, an elongate neck and everted rim, the fabric is orange earthenware decorated with linear decoration in red painted bands and traces of infilled panels. One handle missing, minor chips to the rim and wear to the decoration, otherwise condition good. Bolivia, c. 200-700 A.D.

PC10 Bolivian pottery bowl in debased Tiahuanaco style, c. 200-700 A.D. : £ 185

A good-sized Bolivian pottery bowl in debased Tiahuanaco style, measuring 140 mm/5.5 ins. in diameter and 72 mm/2.9 ins. high. The fabric is orange earthenware with red slip decorated with linear bands around the rim and base with integral geometric decoration. Inoffensive wear, otherwise condition good, Bolivia, c. 200-700 A.D.

PC11 Bolivian pottery beaker in debased Tiahuanaco style, c. 200-700 A.D. : £ 90

A Bolivian pottery beaker in debased Tiahuanaco style, measuring 122 mm/4.9 ins. high. The vessel fabric is orange earthenware, with an orange-red slip decorated with red bands around the rim and lower body and traces of black geometric decoration. Vessel has flat base and one thumb spur handle on the lower body. Rim repaired, minor rim chips and the decoration worn. Bolivia, c. 200-700 A.D.
