PC30 A Moche pottery vessel in the form of the God Ai Apaec as a manioc plant, Peru, c. 500 - 800 A.D. : £ 325

A Moche orange brown pottery vessel in the form of the God Ai Apaec as a manioc plant, measuring 170 mm/7 ins. in length, the fanged face of Ai Apaec forming the neck of the vessel. Some wear to the body, particularly on the underside and the rim chipped but an interesting portrayal, Peru, c. 500 - 800 A.D.

PC31 A seated Mayan Lord, Late Classic Period, from Jaina Island, Mexico, c. 550 - 950 A.D. : £ 350

A Late Classic Mayan terracotta seated Lord, measuring 147 mm/5.6 ins. high, probably a figural whistle. The figure wears a tall cylindrical headdress, a cape covering the shoulders, and a loin-cloth, all decorated in white, together with large ear spools and an elaborate chest ornament. Some wear to the facial details, chips to the headdress, arms and the neck ornament, but an attractive, well-modelled example. Traces of collection labels and ink text on base. From Jaina Island, Mexico, c. 550 - 950 A.D.

PC32 An early Moche double-chambered blackware parrot vessel, Peru, c. 50 B.C. to 100 A.D. : £ 245

An early Moche double-chambered blackware vessel from northern Peru, measuring 210 mm/8.2 ins. in length, the front chamber modelled as a parrot. Some cracking between the two chambers and chips to the aperture, but sound and a nice example of the type, c. 50 B.C. to 100 A.D.

PC33 A Huari wooden mummy head reputedly found near Huarmey, Peru, c. 800 A.D. : £ 745

A Huari wooden mummy head with facial features carved in high relief and with a flattened raised forehead, measuring 205 mm/8.8 ins. high.  The face painted red with the remains of inset shell eyes and pupils.  The top of the head worn and age-related cracking of the surface, with a darker stain below the right eye, but stable and a choice example with considerable presence.  From the central Peruvian coastal area and reputedly found near Huarmey, c. 800 A.D. 
Previously in a New York State private collection.

PC34 A Huastec undecorated carinated brownware tripod bowl, c. 300 B.C.-300 A.D. : £140

A Huastec undecorated carinated brownware tripod bowl standing 70 mm/2.7 ins. high and measuring 170 mm/6.7 ins. in diameter. One shallow rim chip, otherwise intact, c. 300 B.C. - 300 A.D. A collectors label on the base suggests that this may have been found at Teayo in Veracruz state, Mexico.
Previously in the collection of Anne and Richard Sharpe, Connecticut, USA, and acquired by them more than 30 years ago.
